From "Joseph Coniglio "
Subject: Distributor Schemes with Editorial
DISTRIBUTION SCHEMES
-----------------------------------------------
**Agfa Alliance** was offering me 18% to be included in their
rubberband ball of mismatched jumble called the Creative Alliance.
In theory is serves a purpose, in practice, it's a place where all
the font author souls go who are not good enough for heaven and not
bad enough for hell. Gee, as a free agent I'd hate to get stuck there.
Strengths---good marketing exposure--oh my gosh--they spend money to promote!
Weakness---not enough bread goes to the author, identity crisis
-----------------------------------------------
**Precision Type*** is offering me 30% if they sell direct AND 30%-of-30% if the
sale is made through one of their 3rd party distributors.
Strengths---"We are more honest than the others, Joe"
I wasn't aware there were degrees of honesty in life but I will
take that one at face value. They are nice people.
Weakness---last time I checked no web sales, and although they are gearing up
for
another "mother of all catalog books", in the short run they have
ceased to
promote
fonts. They haven't sent an update circular in a coons age. They even asked me
to
ship them out my OWN flyers as a way to promote my stuff when their orders go
out.
--SSSSLLLLoooowwwww to pay.
-----------------------------------------------
Red Rooster (Steve Jackaman)
Pay X amount of $ to get pressed on a locked CD. Don't quote me, $100 per
weight?
for the processing charge. 30% paid out through Jackaman to author after 4000
3rd party distributors worldwide, made the sale, exchange currency, pay
Jackaman who will pay you.
Strengths---Steve, is a thinker, he's very articulate and well thought out
guy.
--Loves type
Weakness--up front costs, much reservation about the ability to pay royalties
from
a worldwide scheme, no warm and fuzzies here
-----------------------------------------------
Editorial:
I'm starting to get mail in my box from people like Lemon (wondering why
Adobe hasn't laid him off yet knowing he spends so much time on the web)
and the self appointed font prophet "Chris" MacGregor, I skipped over them
in comp.fonts anything new to say here or will you remain mute on this floor
topic girls?----If you wanted an answer at least you could get it from YUMMY.
Anyone want to talk about Distribution and open the floor
to this touchy issue or is this going to be a place for
back slapping and glad-handing:
>>> Donnie writes
I only hope that this can attract the kind of people that normally aren't
invited to such things... mainly smaller foundries (people like myself,
astigma and chank)<<<
Yeah maybe a few moderately foundries too, like Emigre.
Ever wonder why Suzanna Licko youy never hear from
about her regarding type or to defend herself? She's too busy making
fonts!
Where's Garage, House Industries, T-26, P22, Font Bureau?
Anyone want to get crusty with Charles Bigelow or Lawrence Penney?
Michel you didn't make a mistake inviting me here. I did not go to Typecon.
and don't go to places to schooze. ??Did David Berlow have anything to say
about distribution there or anywhere else? Or did brother Sam keep him on a
short leash??
My ex-wife says I tend to alienate myself. God it's like a drug!! :-)
Sorry Guys. I'll just sit here quietly and read the mail and look
for interesting banter. Hey, anyone catch Mortal Kombat-The Series on Fox?
Cool show--lots of hot chicks.
Cordially,
Joe Coniglio
