David Lemon writes ; >> What if it's a font which the designer wanted to remain exclusive >> to a given firm? Can one then act ethically in a manner contrary to >> the designer's wishes? Besides, the nice thing about revivals is that there maybe differences in the way the electronic font is implemented, thus the same font by different electronic foundries may look different, although it is a re-creation of the same. >There's also a legal issue here: trademarks on the name. They're registered the trademark ITC Avant Garde >Gothic, and the new name could be construed to impact the value of theirs. >If anyone is considering doing such things, I'd strongly advise getting >legal counsel first. That's right. Thank-you for the insight. On another note : I looked for the official web site for the Association Typographique Internationale (ATypI), and found what looks like it at http://www.textmatters.com/atypi/ I looked for a membership application form, and was not able to locate any. It would be a good idea to have one online. If this is actually the official site, I will also place a link on my web site. I send them a fax to have confirmation, and to get an membership application form. As a simple comment, from someone whose very means of existence depend on the Web, rather than printed matter, the ATypI site seems awfully poor in graphics. Could it be deliberate, or simply the consequence of culture ? Michel Bujardet, Match Software http://www.matchfonts.com
